Shipped 2026-07-26 · Workspaces and permissions Per-entity privacy is no longer a Team-only feature. On every plan (Starter, Individual, and Team) you can open Manage access on any note, protocol, attachment or collection and change who can see it.

What changed

All three privacy modes are available on every plan:
  • Workspace: everyone in the workspace can see it. Still the default.
  • Only specific people: visible to the people you name, plus the workspace Owner.
  • Just me: visible only to you. No Owner override.

Why

Deciding who can see a note is a safety property, not a premium feature. A researcher working alone on a Starter plan handling sensitive material needs it as much as a lab of twenty does, and gating it taught people that Bower’s default is “everyone in the workspace sees everything, and you can’t change that”.

What hasn’t changed

  • Workspace roles (Owner / Admin / Member / Viewer) remain a Team feature.
  • Restricted mode and Bower’s HIPAA/BAA posture remain a Team feature.
  • Workspace admins can still switch Just me off for their whole workspace where policy requires everything to be auditable by an Owner.
  • Anything you had already marked private stays exactly as it was.
