Shipped 2026-09-11 · Organisation Work that cannot leave the tool it was written in is work you end up retyping. A protocol goes to a collaborator as a document, a results summary goes to a client in their own format, and a method sheet goes to the bench on paper. Three things were in the way. There was no Word export. Printing gave you one page regardless of how long the note was. And a note written in dark mode printed as pale text on a dark slab.

What’s new

  • Export a note to Word. .docx is now in the note menu alongside the existing formats, generated in your browser. Nested content comes with it, and where something genuinely cannot be represented, the export says so rather than dropping it quietly.
  • Print the whole note. Cmd+P produced exactly one page, because the app is a fixed-height scroller and paged media does not scroll. A researcher could not print a protocol before a lab session. It prints the full note now, and the toolbars stay off the page.
  • PDF export covers the full note too, for the same reason and by the same fix.
  • Printing is always light. Dark mode is for screens. Printing now forces the light palette so you get black text on white paper.
  • Numbered lists keep their own starting number. A list starting at 7 exported as a list starting at 1 in Word, plain text and Markdown. All three exporters now agree with what you see in the editor.

Notes

Cmd+P opens your browser’s print dialog, so “Save as PDF” from that dialog and the note menu’s PDF export both produce the whole note. Banded table rows are a screen feature and do not carry into .docx or PDF. Branded document templates, and control over scale, margins and orientation, are still open requests rather than shipped work. Full detail in Export.
