Most problems come down to one of four things: Bluetooth, the glasses’ Wi-Fi, the workspace selected on the Dashboard tab, or the Bower app not being open. The Devices tab in the Bower app shows the glasses’ Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and battery status, so start there.

The app can’t find my glasses

  • Check that Bluetooth is on and the glasses are charged, turned on, and in pairing mode. Keep them close to your phone.
  • On Android, Bower needs Nearby devices and Location permission to find the glasses. If you see Bluetooth access blocked, turn these on for Bower in your phone’s settings.
  • On iPhone, if you see Bluetooth access blocked, turn on Bluetooth for Bower in the iPhone Settings app.
  • Tap Scan again on the Devices tab.
If you see Couldn’t connect to glasses, check they’re on and nearby, then tap them again.

I can’t hear Bower in my glasses

On iPhone, the glasses’ speakers pair separately from the glasses. If the app shows Bower is speaking from this phone, not your glasses., tap Set up glasses audio, or tap Glasses audio on the Devices tab, and follow the guide. See Hear Bower in your glasses on iPhone. If the row reads Off · this phone is using another audio device, disconnect your other headphones or speaker and check again.

The glasses won’t join Wi-Fi

  • If you see Couldn’t join followed by your network’s name, check the password and that the network is in range, then try again.
  • To change networks, open Connectivity on the Devices tab and tap Scan for networks.
  • If there’s no usable network, turn on Offline mode on the Devices tab. See When there’s no Wi-Fi.
If you see a message that your glasses and phone are on different Wi-Fi networks, put both on the same network and try again.

Photos or video won’t capture

  • “Connect the glasses to Wi-Fi first”: photos and video need the glasses’ Wi-Fi. Check the Wi-Fi status on the Devices tab, or turn on Offline mode.
  • “Choose a workspace on the Dashboard tab first.”: pick a workspace at the top of the Dashboard tab.
  • “Capture busy”: finish the current capture before pressing the button again. During a live session the button doesn’t capture, so say “Take a snapshot” or “Start recording” instead.
  • “Photo capture timed out”: the glasses didn’t confirm the photo in time. Check they’re on Wi-Fi and try again.
  • “Video transfer timed out”: keep the glasses on Wi-Fi until saving finishes, and try a shorter clip.
  • “Photo saved on glasses” or “Video saved on glasses”: the capture is still stored on the glasses, but it didn’t reach your phone or Bower.
  • “Glasses disconnected”: reconnect from the Devices tab. A recording that was running ends at the point the glasses disconnected.

Captures are waiting to upload

Captures that haven’t reached Bower yet show in a banner at the top of the Workspace tab. Tap View details to see each one:
  • Waiting to upload or Retry scheduled: Bower retries on its own when you’re back online.
  • Waiting for Wi-Fi: a large upload is waiting for Wi-Fi. Tap Retry now to send it over mobile data.
  • Upload failed · local copy kept: tap Retry now. The capture stays on your phone until it uploads or you discard it.
If Offline mode is on, uploads pause until you turn it off.

Voice commands don’t respond

  • Make sure the Bower app is open on your phone. Voice commands don’t listen while it’s closed.
  • Check that Idle voice commands is on in Profile → Settings → Communication.
  • If the speech model didn’t download, tap Retry download on the Dashboard card or in Profile → Settings → Communication. The download is about 75 MB, so use Wi-Fi.
  • If you see Microphone needed, turn on microphone access for Bower in your phone’s settings.
During a live session, the glasses’ voice commands are off and Bower’s live agent listens instead.

A live session won’t start

If a session ends because there was no activity for 3 minutes, that was a “Hey Bower” conversation timing out. Say “Hey Bower” or “Go live” again.

A firmware update failed

If you see Firmware update failed, check the glasses are turned on and nearby, then tap Retry. Keep the screen open until the update finishes; the glasses restart partway through, which can take a minute or two. During setup, Continue anyway skips the update so you can start capturing. You can update later from Connectivity on the Devices tab, under Firmware update.
