1. The Service (Beta)
Bower is an AI-native research platform designed to help scientists and research teams capture, organise, and reason over research data. Features include note-taking, file management, AI-assisted text extraction, voice transcription, and an AI research assistant (Bird). The Service is currently offered in beta. This means:- Features may change, evolve, or be removed
- The Service may contain bugs or errors
- Performance and availability are not guaranteed
- Outputs (including AI-generated outputs) may be incomplete or inaccurate
2. Eligibility and authority
- You must be at least 18 years old (or the age of legal majority in your jurisdiction) to use the Service.
- If you use the Service on behalf of an organisation or institution, you represent that you have authority to bind that entity to these Terms.
3. Accounts and access
Some features require an account. You agree to:- Provide accurate and up-to-date information
- Keep your login credentials secure
- Accept responsibility for all activity under your account
- Notify us immediately if you suspect unauthorised access
4. Acceptable use
You agree to use the Service only for lawful purposes and in accordance with these Terms. You must not:- Violate applicable laws or regulations
- Upload or process content you do not have the right to use
- Attempt to interfere with or compromise the Service
- Access data belonging to other users without permission
- Use the Service to generate or distribute harmful, misleading, or unlawful material
- Reverse-engineer, decompile, or disassemble the Service
- Use the Service for automated data collection or scraping
- Share your account credentials with others
5. Your content
Ownership
You retain ownership of all content you upload, capture, or create using the Service (“User Content”), including research notes, files, images, audio recordings, and documents.Limited licence
You grant Benenota Pty Ltd a limited, non-exclusive licence to host, process, and display User Content solely to operate, maintain, and improve the Service, including providing AI-powered functionality. We do not claim ownership of your research, data, or intellectual property.Responsibility
You are responsible for:- The legality and integrity of your User Content
- Compliance with institutional, ethical, and regulatory obligations
- Determining whether the Service is appropriate for your use case
Shared workspaces
If you use team or shared workspaces, content and metadata may be visible to other authorised users in that workspace according to your role and permissions. If you delete your account, content you created in shared workspaces is preserved for the team and ownership is transferred to the workspace admin. See account deletion for details.6. AI-powered features
The Service includes AI-powered features such as transcription, OCR, text extraction, search, and an AI research assistant (Bird). You acknowledge that:- AI outputs may be inaccurate, incomplete, or misleading
- AI outputs must be reviewed and validated by you before reliance or publication
- The Service does not replace academic, professional, or regulatory judgment
- Your content is not used to train AI models — see our sub-processor list for details
7. Privacy and data protection
Our handling of personal information is governed by our Privacy Policy, which forms part of these Terms. By using the Service, you consent to our data practices as described in the Privacy Policy.8. Plans, billing, and trials
The Service may be offered under free, trial, student, or paid plans.- Pricing and plan details are described on the website
- Paid plans are billed in advance
- Fees are non-refundable unless required by law
- We may modify pricing or plan features with reasonable notice
9. Service availability
We aim for high availability but do not guarantee uninterrupted service. We may:- Modify, suspend, or discontinue parts of the Service
- Introduce new features or usage limits
- Perform maintenance that may affect availability
10. Intellectual property
All intellectual property rights in the Service itself — including software, design, branding, and underlying technology — are owned by Benenota Pty Ltd or its licensors. These Terms do not grant you any rights to Bower’s intellectual property except as necessary to use the Service. Open-source components are governed by their respective licences.11. Data deletion and account termination
- You can delete your account at any time from Settings > Security > Danger Zone.
- Account deletion is permanent and irreversible. See our deletion guide for full details on what is removed and what is preserved.
- We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms or where required by law.
- Upon termination, your right to use the Service ends. Data handling following termination is governed by the Privacy Policy.
12. Disclaimers
To the maximum extent permitted by law:- We make no warranties regarding accuracy, reliability, or fitness for purpose
- Use of the Service is at your own risk
- Beta features are provided without guarantees
13. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law (including the Australian Consumer Law), Benenota Pty Ltd shall not be liable for:- Indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages
- Loss of data, research outcomes, or profits
- Interruption of research
- Reliance on AI-generated outputs
