Bower uses a small number of cookies and browser storage items to keep you signed in, remember your preferences, and understand how the product is used. What you see in the Bower app depends on where you are, based on your IP address. In the EU, the EEA, the UK, or Switzerland (including Guernsey, Jersey, the Isle of Man, Gibraltar, and EU territories with their own country codes), and wherever your location is unknown, you’ll see a consent banner and analytics stay off until you choose:
  • Accept all: enables analytics cookies alongside essential ones.
  • Essential only: only the cookies Bower needs to function. No analytics or tracking.
Everywhere else, analytics are on by default. The banner may flash briefly while Bower checks your location. You can switch analytics off at any time in Settings > Security. Your explicit choice always wins and is never overridden. If you’re on the default and later open Bower from one of the regions above, analytics switch off and the banner returns. This applies to the app only; on bowerlabs.ai, analytics wait for consent everywhere.

Analytics

These cookies help us understand how Bower is used so we can improve it. In the EU, the EEA, the UK, and Switzerland, they are only activated after you click “Accept all”. Elsewhere they are on by default (see Cookie consent). Used on our marketing website only (bowerlabs.ai). There is no advertising cookie anywhere in the Bower app. Like analytics, it loads only after you accept cookies; until then it is not set. Nothing from inside Bower reaches it, and no research content is ever used for advertising. What we track: page views, feature usage (which tools you use and how often), UI interactions, and error rates. We use this to prioritize improvements and fix bugs. What analytics events contain: action names and metadata (e.g., “Note Created”, “Search Performed”), not the body of your notes or files. Two honest caveats, because they are how these tools actually work. Session replay, when it is on, records what is on your screen, and your screen can include your notes as you edit them. And click tracking can capture the text of the element you clicked, such as a button label or an item title. Both are disabled entirely for workspaces in Restricted mode. Voice recordings and file contents are never sent to analytics. Session recording and heatmaps are disabled entirely for workspaces in Restricted mode, regardless of your cookie choice. That gate runs in the browser, because session replay sends page content straight to PostHog without passing through Bower’s servers. Bower retains AI request and response text in a third-party observability service for quality monitoring. This is server-side. It sets no cookie and no browser storage, so it is not covered by the consent banner above and cannot be changed from this page. It is disclosed in full on AI & your data, and the provider is named on the sub-processor list.

Managing your cookies

  • On first visit: use the consent banner if you see one. Otherwise analytics are on by default.
  • After sign-in: go to Settings > Security to change your analytics preference. Switching off stops further collection but does not delete Google Analytics cookies already set.
  • In your browser: clear Bower’s cookies and localStorage at any time. This signs you out and resets your consent preference.
