# Every protocol is now a structured protocol

> Bower has one kind of protocol: steps in sections, with typed values, a sidebar and versions. Note protocols were converted, and each keeps the original note as a file.

**Shipped 2026-10-17 · Protocols**

Bower now has one kind of protocol. **New protocol** offers only a
structured protocol, and the **Note protocol** choice is gone.

## What changed

* **Note protocols were converted.** Bower generated each one's steps from
its text and kept the original as a file named `Original note.md`, linked
  from the protocol's first version.
* **A protocol's text comes from its steps.** Search and AI apps read text
that Bower writes from the steps. To change a protocol, edit its steps in a
  draft version.
* **A few items stayed notes.** Anything that turned out not to be a
protocol, such as test text, was kept as a note, unchanged.
