# Transfer workspace ownership from the Members page

> Hand a workspace and its billing to another member in one step from Settings > Members. Every workspace now has exactly one Owner, who is also the billing owner.

Every Bower workspace now has exactly one **Owner**, and the Owner is also the
workspace's **billing owner**. When the workspace needs a new Owner, for example
a lab head moving on or a workspace Bower set up for your team, the current
Owner hands it over from the Members page.

## What's new

* **Transfer ownership on the Members page.** Open **Settings > Members** and
  click **Transfer ownership** at the top of **Active members**. Pick any Admin
  or Member, type the workspace name to confirm, and the transfer happens
  straight away.
* **Billing moves with ownership.** The new Owner becomes the billing owner:
  invoices and billing emails go to them from then on. You become an Admin and
  keep your access.
* **Your card stays put.** The payment method on file doesn't change. If the
  new Owner wants to pay with their own card, they update it in **Settings >
  Billing**. The plan, seats, and billing history carry over.
* **Clear when you can't.** If you aren't the Owner, the button is greyed out,
  and hovering over it tells you who the Owner is. Guests are listed but can't
  be picked, with the reason shown.

## Notes

* **Owner is no longer in the role list.** You can't make someone the Owner by
  changing their role; Transfer ownership is the only way, because ownership
  carries the billing account.
* Transfers are blocked while a payment is overdue, so nobody inherits a failed
  invoice. Update the payment method in **Settings > Billing** first.
