# Equipment Register

> Catalogue your lab instruments so Bird can troubleshoot, answer technical questions, and guide you through procedures — including hands-free with smart glasses.

**Shipped 25 May 2026 · Organisation**

## A catalogue Bird can actually use

The Equipment Register gives your lab instruments a home in Bower. Add a centrifuge, a PCR machine, a spectrophotometer — Bird learns what you have, where it is, and what it is. Then it can help you with it.

Ask Bird about an instrument in a normal conversation and it will troubleshoot problems, walk you through procedures, or explain error codes — using the make, model, and serial you catalogued, alongside any related protocols and notes in your workspace.

## Three ways to add an instrument

Adding equipment takes about thirty seconds. You can:

* **Scan a photo** — take or upload a photo of the nameplate or serial tag; Bird reads it and auto-fills make, model, and serial.
* **Search online** — type the name and Bird looks it up, returning results you can tap to fill the form.
* **Enter manually** — for custom-built kit or anything Bird can't identify.

## Especially useful hands-free

If you use Bird in Live Mode with Ray-Ban Meta or Viture glasses, the Equipment Register makes hands-free troubleshooting much more practical. Describe the error on a display, point at the instrument, ask what's wrong — Bird knows the instrument and can walk you through it while your hands stay on the bench.

See the [Equipment Register guide](/organisation/equipment-register) for setup and examples.
